✦ Timeline
How long does it take to build a contractor website?
For a custom trades-business site — 4 to 8 pages, custom design, lead capture built in — a realistic timeline is 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff to launch. A single landing page can be turned around in a week. What stretches that timeline almost always comes down to the same handful of things.
What speeds things up:
- Having your logo and any existing brand colors ready on day one
- Sending project photos early, even a rough phone-camera batch — they can be cleaned up later
- Turning around feedback within a day or two of each round, instead of letting it sit
- Knowing your service areas and service list before design starts, so pages don't get restructured mid-build
What slows things down:
- Waiting until the site is nearly done to decide you want a different color scheme or layout
- Not having copy ready, and needing it written from scratch mid-project
- Slow feedback turnaround — a week of silence on a revision round adds a week to launch, every time
The honest version: the designer's part of the timeline is usually the predictable part. The client's part — content, photos, feedback speed — is what actually varies project to project.
