How many pages should a trade business website have?
More than most contractors think, and the reason is simple: every page is a separate opportunity for Google to send you a customer. A one-page site with a paragraph about each service competes for one search term. A site with a dedicated page per service competes for dozens.
A solid baseline structure:
- Home — your pitch, your services at a glance, and the fastest path to a quote
- One page per service — "Emergency Plumbing," "Water Heater Repair," "Drain Cleaning" instead of one combined "Services" page
- One page per town or service area, if you cover multiple — each is a chance to rank for "[service] in [town]"
- About — who you are, license and insurance info, why someone should trust you specifically
- Work / Gallery — real project photos, ideally with before/after
- Contact — quote form and click-to-call, with as little friction as possible
A business offering 4 services in 3 towns could reasonably have 15+ pages once you multiply that out — and that's not bloat, that's 15 separate doors a customer can walk through from a Google search.
The mistake isn't having too many pages — it's having pages that are thin, duplicated content with the town name swapped out. Each page needs to actually say something specific, or Google treats it as low-value and it won't rank regardless of how many you have.
