✦ Conversion
What makes a website actually generate leads, not just look nice?
A good-looking site and a lead-generating site aren't the same thing, and plenty of pretty websites book zero jobs. The difference comes down to whether every part of the page is doing a job, or just sitting there.
What actually drives conversions:
- Speed — a homeowner searching mid-emergency won't wait for a slow site to load; every extra second of load time loses visitors
- Mobile-first design — most of your traffic is on a phone, often one-handed, often urgent
- Frictionless contact — click-to-call and short quote forms beat long forms every time; every extra field is a reason to bail
- Trust signals in the right place — license and insurance badges, real reviews, and real project photos placed where someone is deciding whether to trust you, not buried at the bottom
- Copy that sells outcomes, not features — "hot water again tonight" converts better than "24-hour water heater repair service"
- A clear next step on every page — no dead ends where a visitor is interested but doesn't know what to do next
What doesn't move the needle nearly as much as people think: fancy animations, stock photography, or a homepage that tries to say everything at once. A visitor decides whether to trust you and act within seconds — clarity beats cleverness almost every time.
The mental model that works: your website is your hardest-working employee. It should be answering questions, building trust, and filling your calendar while you're on a job — not just sitting there looking professional.
