✦ Maintenance
How often should I update my website once it's live?
Most trade sites don't need constant tinkering. Once it's live and converting, the biggest risk isn't that it goes stale — it's that someone "improves" it into something slower and less clear. That said, a few things should never sit outdated for long, and a few more are worth a quiet quarterly check.
Update immediately when:
- Your phone number, hours, or service area changes — wrong contact info loses jobs the same day it goes up
- Pricing or a promo you're advertising changes
- You add a genuinely new service or drop one you no longer offer
- A page has a broken form, dead link, or an image that won't load
Review on a quarterly cadence:
- Swap in your newest job photos so the site doesn't look frozen in time
- Add recent 5-star reviews if you're running a reviews section
- Check that your Google Business Profile and website still say the same thing about hours and service area
- Run a speed check — a plugin update or a bloated image someone added can quietly slow things down
What you don't need is an annual redesign out of habit. A redesign is expensive and disruptive to your search rankings if done carelessly. Only go that route when you're seeing real signs it's holding you back — not because it's "been a year."
